Precision Standards for Midwest Industry
In Midwest manufacturing, precision is the baseline for operation. From heavy automotive stamping to aerospace component inspection, the integrity of your products depends on the accuracy of your measurements. That accuracy starts at the granite surface plate — and even the best granite wears out of tolerance over time.
If you manage a facility in the Midwest, you already know the problem: daily use pushes flatness beyond spec, and suddenly your entire measurement chain is suspect. Professional surface plate calibration restores that chain. We will map the surface, resurface if needed, and hand you a fully traceable certificate before we leave.
Who We Are
Surface Plate Calibration was founded after seeing the same problems come up over and over — QA managers burned by vendors who miss appointments, show up with uncalibrated instruments, or hand over certificates that auditors reject on sight.
Our vetted technicians are A2LA-certified and equipped with Hilger-Watts autocollimators and wet lap resurfacing gear. The work gets done right because we do not cut corners on who does it or what they bring.
On-Site Wet Lap Resurfacing
Flatness is not just verified — it is fixed on the spot. The entire surface is mapped using Hilger-Watts autocollimators and laser interferometry in a standardized Union Jack pattern. If the plate is out of spec, it gets resurfaced right there.
We use the wet lap method exclusively. Unlike dry lapping, the wet process uses an abrasive slurry that eliminates airborne silica dust — keeping your shop clean and your other instruments safe. The result is a harder, more durable finish that holds tolerance longer between service intervals.
